I have been reflecting on this powerful quote from Ernest Hemingay. “The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.”
In my previous article, Can You Trust Someone That Doesn’t Trust You?, I stated that my hypothesis has been that we cannot, under most circumstances, trust someone that does not trust us. Therefore, someone must make the first step.
In other words, trust is established by trusting. Can you do it? Will you do it?
It is easy to feel that “they” should go first. However, a stalemate is a likely outcome, since they are either unaware or feel the same way that you do (that you should go first).
Go first. Start the process of creating trust. Your relationships will be more robust.
- Trust and Greatness; Learn to extend trust abundantly to draw out the latent greatness in the people around you.
- Choosing When to Extend Trust; Learn to extend trust wisely
- Can You Trust Someone That Doesn’t Trust You?; My hypothesis is that we cannot under most circumstances. Someone must make the first step.
