We all want to be happier. The world of positive psychology has given us a wealth of information about what leads to more happiness in your life. Here is another tip that I have successfully used to increase my personal happiness.
There is a long line of research that shows that acts of altruism decrease stress and strongly contribute to mental health. We are happier by helping the people around us thrive. Now, that can take many forms, including giving to your favorite charity or donating time to a good cause.
However, it could be as simple as:
- Sending one thank you note each day to someone that had a positive effect on you.
- Pick a day and do 5 nice things for others. They need not be huge. Just try to be helpful.
- Quick and easy: Pay for the order behind you in the drive through line.
Be proactive. Give to those around you, especially those in need, and watch your own happiness increase. It feels great!
Just my opinion. What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
