Don’t Meet Your Heroes

Don’t meet your heroes is great advice!  Inevitably, you will find out, when you look hard enough, that your heroes are no better than you, your family or acquaintances. In fact, they may very well be profoundly flawed.

People should not be idolized.  That is especially true for celebrities and politicians.

We are messy, imperfect beings.  That is true of all, not just some, of us.

I have found it better to distinguish between:

  • Admiring heroic acts, which should absolutely be lauded and remembered
  • Vs. idolizing a hero, who will always be a simple, flawed human being.

Just my opinion.  What do you think?  Let me know in the comments.
