We cause all of our own suffering. Our suffering is caused by us, in our own mind.
That does not mean that we have control over all circumstances in our lives. While we can influence how things work out, we cannot control the circumstances.
Suffering is rooted in our desire for things to be other than they are. The difference between what we have / how things are and what we want causes us pain.
However, if we stop arguing with reality, and embrace what we have and how things are⦠we stop our suffering.
The problem? It is easy to say and extremely difficult to do consistently.
Just my opinion. What do you think? Let me know in the comments.

There is also something to be said about not accepting the suffering to do/be better. If we accept our suffering, how then do we change it? If you are suffering being in a low paying job and have trouble finding the money to live comfortably, wouldn’t it be a good thing to not accept this and better yourself to find a new job? I do agree that we need to let go of a certain amount of self inflicted suffering to live a happier, more productive life.
